The Enchantress and the Sorcerer & Sacred Union

The Enchantress and the Sorcerer represents empowerment of feminine energy. The enchantress seated on the primordial rock, has bypassed the hovering dragon and male sorcerer's dominance. Although she is deep in the shadows, in a potentially entrapping, disempowering situation, she is able to remain free. Her receptivity is drawing the divine light into her crown. This feminine display of energy charms and delights the sorcerer and thereby equalizes and balances male/female energy and power. The rattlesnake that she is seated upon, represents a firey, passionate energy flow that starts at the base of the spine and flows out the top of the head. At the base of the spine, this energy creates sexual and emotional passion. As it moves up it expands mental focus and charisma. As it leaves at the crown, it creates wisdom and connection to your divine energy.

In Spring 2002, upon completion of "Infusion of Light", I returned to the the Grand Canyon to once again attempt the challenging loop hike of the New Hance/Grandview. My companion and I descended the extremely steep trail into the ominous canyon. Our intent for this journey was to totally disconnect and break away from our cell phone busy existence. As we hovered under a rock overhang during a torrential rain storm, I made a feeble attempt to convince myself that we had everything we needed in our ultra-light packs for our journey. High winds forced us to hold onto rock ledges for dear life to avoid tumbling down the steep canyon walls. Later that afternoon a soft golden glow warmed the valley bed and we heard a loud buzzing. It was as if everything in nature was humming a song. As night shadows approached, we emerged from the New Hance Trail and collapsed into sleep on pristine white sand dunes of the Colorado River.

The second day, as we accessed the Tonto Trail, we were greeted by a coiled-up rattlesnake. Its message to us was to "shed our skin", release old mental programs and transform. The rattler withdrew its energy and slithered away. With trusting instinct, we continued on the faint trail and arrived at a curious grouping of rocks. While standing on top of a solitary rock, I felt an "uncoiling" and ritualistic releasing of energy that was absorbed into the earth. My intuition informed me that the snake represented an alchemical process. Instead of releasing life force energy from the base of the spine upward and out the crown into the universe, as a snake uncoiling, the energy of old programs and patterns needed to withdraw into the earth as the snake had demonstrated.

By mid-day we arrived at a boulder field with eerie primal shaped rocks. One rock appeared as a snake head with open mouth and razor sharp fangs. Inside the mouth was the perfect tongue to sit on. A photo- shoot ensued. As we shot the energy of how it felt to be "shedding our skins", we rewired old thought patterns and visualized ourselves emerging anew. I realized that my truest power was my feminine receptivity.

The second night, bats flew low overhead, as if to signal a shamanistic death and rebirth. The frogs bugled their mating croaks while we tried to sleep.

The third morning we left the Hance Creek camping area and proceeded to our final camping area, the crystal clear spring at Cottonwood Creek. We encountered our first hikers and engaged in a spartan lunch. Later that afternoon I realized that I had lost most of my remaining food. Intuitively I knew that food would not be necessary for the renewal initiation at the spring later that day. That afternoon, we collapsed at the source of the crystal clear spring and hypnotically watched the water bubble out of the earth. I fell into a dreamy altered state. A potent vision appeared before my eyes. I remembered that I had been to this place before. I had lived here in a past life. Off the the distance I saw a Native American man in ceremonial garb. In my openness and receptivity at this very spring, I was overpowered and had conceived his child against my will. Tribal shame had incurred. I had returned to this very place, at this moment in time, to reframe this negative imprint, and empower the feminine.

As I relaxed into a deep meditative state, I felt a warmth and openness, with intensified sexuality. The Native American man was not present in this life-time. Therefore using visualization, I was forced to move my life force energy upward through my spine and out the crown of my head. The pregnant woman in the painting, who is part of the rocks, symbolizes the utilization of sexual energy for conception of creative synergy with one's own divine life purpose. A child does not have to be conceived...One's own CREATIVITY can be birthed instead! By returning to this sacred spring, I had reprogrammed the negative imprint I had incurred from the past, released the shame, and birthed Co-creation with my highest intuitive knowing.

As a result of the photo shoot inside the primordial rock, I was able to
remember that my feminine receptive energy creates healing and maximizes personal power. A balance is created with domineering, confrontational masculine energies. The owl in the painting represents this inner wisdom. The turkey vulture near the sorcerer dragon represents wise conservation of energy. This bird does not have to use its own energy to kill its prey. Instead it conserves energy by using the heat currents of the earth to lift up and fly to spot its dead prey. The hawk represents messages that one brings to others when channeling this healing energy. The hummingbird* symbolizes joy that comes in establishing the balance between masculine and feminine power.

The last morning we left the spring and proceeded to climb out of the canyon. As we looked down, we could see the whole panoramic viewpoint of the many miles we had traversed in the last few days. It felt as if all the pieces of a puzzle were coming together to create the panoramic viewpoint, or "big picture" for gaining incite into life's situations.

*While creating this painting, I hiked into a canyon near my home in Arizona. With closed eyes, I rubbed my palms together to create friction and increase the magnetic charge between them. With my hands, I opened the field of energy in front of my heart. As I opened my eyes, a hummingbird appeared and tried two times to land on my chest, where I had opened the energy field. I flinched with fear, and he flew off. Disappointed with myself for having fear of this tiny bird, I vowed to be open to this experience again in the future. A few weeks later, while on top of the sacred Navajo Mountain, a jewel-toned hummingbird came and landed on my shoulder.
