Genesis

In Fall 2002, after our journey to Buckskin Gulch, Kathy and I made an attempt to return to the potent underground chamber. As we were about to descend into the narrows, I noticed a small rivulet of water encircling my feet. It was as if the water wanted to spiral my ankles, grab on, and engulf me. I looked behind and saw a torrential river of rain water running toward us. Water was pouring into the canyon and running off the high canyon walls with unrelenting ferocity. After a brief photo shoot, we quickly left the canyon.

Genesis illustrates a watery underground chamber. Water is the only element in nature that can wear away at rock. This journey had become an allegory for my life.

The gushing water was symbolic of removing any old debris, wearing down and sweeping away any shadows of former realities within me. This ego death and rebirth released old thought patterns and emotional habits that didn't serve me any longer, and created renewal.
