"Vision Quest"

Vision Quest tells the story of several journeys into the wilderness, the artist took, with the intention of confronting her fears. The first journey was to a sacred cave on a Native American reservation. She found herself in the wilderness near the Mexican border. As she entered the area she was asked to sign a release that stated that if she was attacked by the recently sighted mountain lion, she wouldn't hold the Native American nation responsible. After acknowledging her fear of the mountain lion, she chose to sign the release. She then climbed to the top of a large, rugged mountain and negotiated a narrow opening that she believed to be the sacred cave.

When she lit a candle, she saw medicine bags, eagle feathers, and prayer sticks. Being respectful not to touch or disturb the mysterious cave's contents, the artist had an intense premonition. In the middle of the night, while asleep, an eagle came to the artist, in a lucid dream. The eagle left with her an exciting message and then disappeared into the darkness. Later, at home, the artist then began painting "Vision Quest." The eagle was painted in the sky, and then the artist thought about what else might go into the painting. A week later she went on the next fear confrontive journey to visit 125 wolves. Her friends rescue and take care of them.

As she mingled with these amazing animals, she found she had to let go of fear and get into a relaxed state to co-mingle with their energies. One huge wolf named Bear came over and proceeded to lick her face. Bear is on the lower left side of the painting. Many wolves are hidden among the rocks.

While experiencing the telepathic power of the wolves, the artist felt the primal energy of Elsa, the mountain lion who lives with the wolves. Elsa is in the middle of the portal. There is a shapeshifter being within Elsa that appears to be the profile of a seated old man. The last journey was to the Cirachua Mountains to visit the rock people.

The Native Americans would evoke the spirits of their departed loved ones through rocks with humanlike faces. These rock faces are seen within the rock formations. These three journeys formed an ongoing process that engaged the artist to work on her fears. "The Eagle is soaring above the earth. His eyes are laser focused. Having gone through the portal, he has confronted his fears, and he is free."
