In this painting it appears as if a woman with butterfly wings is emerging out of a flower. The flower, called the Sacred Datura, is a very fragrant, poisonous, night blooming plant. Caterpillars live on this toxic plant and metamorphose into beautiful butterflies. The woman is letting go of her fears and limitations. She is finding the positive in every seemingly negative situation. The fears, limitations and toxins are actually assisting her to become the butterfly. Just as the butterfly symbolizes transformation in the Native American tradition, the hummingbird near her head represents joy in finding the positive in every situation.
This transformation happened to me when I visited the Havasupai Native American Reservation. The fifty mile round trip hike and backpack down to the Colorado River included extremely hot temperatures above 110 degrees. I had to deal with many fears and limitations, such as physical pain, potential flash floods, extreme heat and rugged terrain.
As my friend & I entered the shadows of the canyon in early morning, the Sacred Datura still in full bloom appeared everywhere. A butterfly and hummingbird circled around us. We tried to avoid a group of noisy boy scouts in order to experience the gifts of this canyon in peace.
I sent strong signals and thought forms to Spirit, stating loudly and clearly that I wanted to successfully complete the fifty mile journey to the river and back. My second intent was to let go of my limitations.
The next morning, we used ropes & chains to get deeper into the canyon. As we collapsed in exhaustion in a very remote area halfway down to the river, my companion and I realized that we needed a guide to help us follow the difficult trail, and assistance to climb the dangerous cliffs with ropes. I sent up thought forms in the form of smoke signals, to Spirit, requesting help. Just as I asked for assistance, a man appeared on the trail and said he would be our guide for the dangerous trip ahead…..a synchronistic happening!! We planned to meet at our campsite early the next morning with the arrangement that he would only be able to take us part way down to the river. That night I packed my day pack with plenty of food for the full journey down to the river. I was sending up smoke signals, asking for help to hike all the way down to the river.
Early the next morning, the man appeared and stated that he had to leave the canyon and was unable to be our guide. As I let go of my disappointment, there was another synchronistic happening….the group of boy scouts we were trying to evade, were climbing down the ropes and chains into the canyon where we had camped and said that we could join them to go all the way down to the river and back. When we let go of control and allowed spirit to guide, we were provided with even more than we could have accomplished on our own. Spirit provided us with full guidance all the way to the river and back, protection, assistance, and a photographer to record the journey.
The woman in the painting is sending smoke signals or positive thought forms up to spirit. As we think and talk about what we want to manifest, we send positive thought forms to the universe. We then watch for the green lights…the messengers who come to show the way! Notice the messengers…the sacred datura, the butterfly, the hummingbird, and the masculine messengers in the sky.
